The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood the Musical
Sep 14 2026 - Dec 12 2026
The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood is a wonderfully offbeat holiday musical filled with wit, charm, and a delightfully unexpected twist on a classic fairytale. With music by Jule Styne — the legendary composer behind Funny Girl, Gypsy, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes — this stage adaptation of the beloved holiday television special brings festive fun, clever storytelling, and memorable songs to life.
The story begins on Christmas Eve, as the animals at the zoo gather for a holiday party. But not everyone is celebrating. Locked away and left off the guest list, the embittered Lone T. Wolf decides it is time to tell his side of the Red Riding Hood story. What follows is a playful, imaginative retelling filled with humor, heart, and plenty of musical surprises.
Originally starring Liza Minnelli and Cyril Ritchard when it premiered on ABC-TV, The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood features a cheerful and tuneful score that is especially well-suited for young performers. From lively holiday numbers to catchy ballads, the show includes standout songs such as the slinky “Granny’s Song” and Red Riding Hood’s charming lament, “I’m Naive.”
Described by the Sarasota Journal as “lots of sly fun, imaginative and tuneful,” and praised by Mainlining Christmas as “unexpectedly delightful” with songs “packed with clever rhymes and wordplay,” this musical is a smart, funny, and festive treat for the holiday season.
